Layne Hastings, founder of Fillichio & Hastings, is an experienced litigation consultant and head of the firm’s visual communications and presentation technology services. Layne is an expert in assisting law firms, corporations and governmental entities in the development and design of strategic demonstratives and thematic presentations that effectively communicate with the trier of fact.
For over 30 years, Layne has worked with accomplished trial teams on many of the country’s most notable cases in federal and state courts. He has created visual strategies that have assisted judges and juries in comprehending facts and themes leading to successful outcomes, including several landmark verdicts. Layne is described as highly responsive, dedicated and detail oriented. He is known for his ability to turn volumes of complex information into demonstratives that are precise, powerful, and persuasive.
Layne has experience in a variety of litigation matters, including intellectual property, product liability, contract disputes, construction defect, labor and employment, insurance coverage, financial/bankruptcy, environmental and antitrust. He specializes in formulating strategic presentations for all phases of patent litigation including technology tutorials, Patent Trial and Appeal Board, Markman hearings, and trial. With a background illustrating technical consumer products, he is consistently engaged to work with counsel in intellectual property litigation for high-tech industries such as internet security, flat panel display, smartphone and mobile technology, telecommunications, semiconductor, video streaming, pharmaceutical, and medical device. He works with numerous consumer product manufacturers in all industries, bringing to life the functionality and benefits of the products at issue.
Prior to forming Fillichio & Hastings, Layne was a Vice President and Strategic Consultant with DecisionQuest where he started and grew their litigation graphics and presentation technology practice to one of the most successful in the industry. Before DecisionQuest, in the early stages of the trial consulting industry, Layne was an art director at Litigation Sciences and among the first to conceptualize and implement the use of demonstratives in the courtroom. Layne began his career after earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in commercial art and graphic design, working first as an art director for a mid-size advertising agency servicing national accounts, then moving into industrial design providing concept illustrations for high-tech consumer products.
